Rules
Travelling aboard different Pacers (class 142s and 143s) and visiting different stations, score as many points as possible in a day. An exclusive Pilning Pacerthon ticket is available to challengers successfully returning to Pilning having scored the number of points required for each of the levels as shown below.
GOLD: 40 SILVER: 30 BRONZE: 20
Your Pacerthon attempt must start and finish at Pilning Station, using the two GWR services which call on any one Saturday. Other than travelling between Pilning and Cardiff, only TfW operated services within the “Explore Cardiff & Valleys” area may be used. Scoring commences when boarding your first service departing Cardiff Central & finishes once aboard your final service back to Cardiff Central, between which Cardiff Central scores points like any other station.
Each different Pacer set used: 2 points
Every non-Pacer service used: -1 point
Score 2 points for each different Pacer set used. When multiple DMU sets are working a service, any Pacer sets within will be eligible to score points. 1 point will be deducted however for every use of a service, not operated by or containing within it, a Pacer set. Repeated use of any one particular “non-Pacer” formed service will result in repeated 1 point deductions. Pacer sets added to or removed from a formation mid-journey can, for scoring purposes, be considered to have been used for the whole journey.
Each different station visited: 1 point
Every repeat station visit: -1 point
Score 1 point for each different station visited. 1 point will be deducted for every repeat visit to a station. Repeated use of any one particular station will result in repeated 1 point deductions. See note above about Cardiff Central. You must always depart aboard a different service to the one upon which you arrived.
When alighting at a station, photograph its name, prior to boarding any service, photograph the train.
Pacer set numbers should be clearly visible in photographs. No minimum connection times. You must only use scheduled public passenger train services. No rail replacement services or any other forms of public or private transport permitted, including between stations on foot. Always visit www.pilningstation.uk prior to travelling. All journeys taken at challenger’s own risk. Always be “Rail Safe”.
