Challenge Rules
Using the two train services which call at Pilning Station on any one Saturday, score as many points as possible visiting different stations within the “Explore Cardiff & Valleys” area.
An exclusive Pilning Terminator ticket is available to challengers successfully returning to Pilning having scored the minimum number of points required for each of the levels as shown below.
BRONZE: 40, SILVER: 60, GOLD: 80
Starting at Pilning you may travel initially to either Cardiff Central or Bridgend using GWR services, after which only journeys using TfW train services within the “Explore Cardiff & Valleys” area are permitted until returning direct to Pilning using the GWR service from Cardiff Central. Scoring commences when alighting from your first TfW service.
Terminus Stations: 12 points; Other Stations: 2 points
To score Terminus Station points you must arrive aboard a scheduled terminating service, alight and photograph its name, after which you may depart aboard any train including the same train upon which you arrived.
To score Other Station points you must alight, photograph its name and depart aboard a different train to the one upon which you arrived.
Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen St. may be used but will not score. You may use any station more than once, however each scoring station will count once only towards your total Terminator score.
[Note] Whilst Bridgend, Radyr, Pontypridd and Bargoed may count as either Terminus Stations or Other Stations, they cannot count as both.
Bridgend or Radyr qualify as Terminus Stations only when arriving aboard a terminating Vale of Glamorgan or City Line service respectively.
If a service is terminated short of its usual scheduled terminus for any reason, including for planned maintenance or on the day operational reasons, then the unscheduled terminating station will not be eligible to score Terminus Station points but may however score Other Station points.
No minimum connection times. Use only scheduled public passenger train services. No rail replacement bus services or any other forms of public or private transport permitted, including between stations on foot.
When alighting at a station, photograph its name, prior to boarding any service, photograph the train. Challengers may only submit one challenge for any given Saturday.
Rules and B/S/G qualifying points are subject to change at any time. Always visit www.pilningstation.uk prior to travelling. All journeys taken at challenger’s own risk. Always be “Rail Safe”.
